Relay + TMC2209

Post by MikeTheBiker » Sun Jan 26, 2020 7:09 pm

Not a question but a status report...

(1) I'm writing this post because it took quite a while to figure out how the spindle relay works...
I'm using v3.51 original CNC board + gerbl 1.1h 2019-08-25)
Relais: SRD 05VDC-SL-C

[VARIABLE_SPINDLE defined (default in 1.1)]
Connect relay IN-pin to SpnEn left pin
Turn Spindle
ON: M03 S1000
OFF: M03 S0
or M04

[ Only if VARIABLE_SPINDLE is off (see Update 2) ]
I had to connect the relay to 5V +/- and the IN pin to Z+
Connecting IN to Spindle + or - did not work
Turning the Spindle
ON: M03
OFF: M04
M03 S1000 or M03 S0 had no effect!

(2) TMC2209 Easy guys! Really I'm super impressed how good am quite they are.
All I had to do is cut off two of the downward looking legs (see foto)
On the CNC Shield all jumpers below the drivers are not set - for the TC2209 this means 1/8 steps. You have to set your machine accordingly

In my case this was:
$100=200
$101=200
$102=200

200 = Steps per Revolution*Microsteps / (lead screw pitch (8mm in my case))

[Update 1]
Fan works as expected!
ON: M8
OFF: M9

[Update 2]
OMG about 2 month ago I change the define in config.h line 339 to
// #define VARIABLE_SPINDLE // Default enabled. Comment to disable.
and tested with another Arduino
For this board I pulled a fresh version from grbl GH but Arduino IDE must have cached
the compiled files some where!!!!
Finally after disabling the Arduino cache in preferences.txt it picked up the fresh version from GH!!!!

That is strange... The z+ pin should be in input mode being an end stop pin.

Are you sure about the GRBL version?
