will it work

Post by erniehatt » Sat Sep 28, 2019 8:06 am

Hi Bertus,
I have a laser engraver, that uses a 258 board, What I am after doing, is using it on a small CNC machine with laser attachment.
One problem I am seeing is that the Y axis and the A are cloned, but the new machine only has on Y axis drive, I am reluctant to desolder as the last time I did this the pads were detached, would it work if I just remove the A driver board.
Also, can I use the cnc and laser on the same board.
Thanks.

Hi Ernie,

Yes. removing the driver from the A socket will be fine.

Yes. GRBL has a Laser mode that needs to be enabled for it to work like a laser cutter.

Keep in mind that a laser cutter needs a dedicated laser driver that will take TTL(0-5V) level input to control the laser intensity.
