No power to stepper motors

Post by mrcnc » Tue Jun 11, 2019 3:07 am

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie to cnc and this forum.

Please indulge me with your patience.

I have been wiring a workbee cnc to the CNC Shield / arduino uno controller.

I powered up the board via the PSU and the arduino was connected to PC via USB.

I attempted to test the steppers with the universal Gcode sender.

On selecting the Z axis movement, I heard two 'zaps' or 'spark' sounds from the board and smelt a burning smell.

The drivers were correctly connected to the board with the en pin in the right position.

The board is recognised by the Gcode sender but there is no movement / power in the steppers.

I suspect a short circuit.

Any solutions or advice?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

What version shield is this?

Could you find the source of the sound or the smell? Was it the CNC shield or the Stepper driver?

Likely a stepper driver that is faulty, inserted the wrong way around or the big capacitor on the shield that is wrong way round.
Any bridges between pins that you could see?
