Grove Connector I2C SDA and SCL pins are flipped

Post by yurikleb » Fri Aug 07, 2020 7:39 am

It seems like the SDA and the SCL pins on the grove connector are wired wrong - they seem to be flipped.
On the Raspberry Pi SDA is Pin-3 and SCL is Pin-5

However, the SDA and SCL pins of the Grove connector on the Protoneer Raspberry Pi CNC Board seem to be wired the other way around. The Grove SDA is connected to pin-5 and the Grove SCL is connected to Pin-3.

I could not find any comments about that in the wiki and spent the entire morning trying to figure out why the I2C sensors I am using not being recognized. I have two CNC Boards and it the case on both of them.

It's easily solvable by cross-soldering the cables on the grove connector cable, but would be nice to add a note about this issue in the Wiki and potentially fix in the next version of the board if possible?

Thanks for that. I just double checked and unfortunately you are correct.

We have stopped supplying the boards with the Grove connector since the beginning of the year because we can't source them anymore.

Just signed up to say that I found this problem, but you've beaten me to it.

You say you're removing the connector? Are the leaving the pads in place on the PCB so a user can still add their own? It's very handy having access to external i2c devices.

Yes... the pads are still in place.

I wondered why mine came without one. I've just ordered a used grove gyro sensor from eBay to harvest it's connector. Perhaps I'll see if I can rework pins when I fix it to the board
