CNC Hat software

Post by DerFarm » Mon Oct 26, 2020 2:37 pm

I couldn't get the CNC HAT IMG file to the 16GB sd card. I tried several different download sites, different SD cards, different types of formatting, I even went the version 4.10 on the theory that 8 months old cant be THAT bad. I read about it here and there and became more and more confused. Invalid power supplies, improper formatting, poorly set pins and so forth. Nothing worked.

Going back to my basics (I was a contract programmer from 1978 to 2008), I reformatted the the SD card using SD Card Formatter ( https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/ ) and installed RaspberryPI OS from an OS Imager ( https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Ba ... ager.shtml ... I think). I got the screen with the what looks like temples in Thailand, the mouse worked and the keyboard worked ... so I guess it works.

If I'm correct, all I need to do now is to get bCNC on the desktop and I'm ready to roll on the software side? I have no intention at this time of running off the web, remote controlling the PI or dealing with JavaScript.

Is this more or less correct? If not, what am I missing?

Also need to run the script(once) that enables the hardware serial pins...

Thank you. I solved the problem by yelling at the PiShop. They sent me a pre-loaded CNC Hat micro chip. I paid $10 for it. I don't know if they have them in stock, or the poor woman at the other end of the line just got tired of me whining.
