is this possible?

Post by socrates » Wed Apr 18, 2018 5:14 pm

I am building a MPCNC and the design calls for 5 x nema 17 stepper motors. I wanted to use a Raspberry Pi instead of the Rambo v1.4 setup. My plan was to use the CNC hat for this purpose but after putting things together I am not sure this is possible anymore as the Stepper motors are 1.8 Amp and wired in series, using the DRV8825 stepper drivers I am not sure they will produce enough power to drive 2 motors 3.4Amp for the X and Y axis. Should I proceed this way or should I look to use external drivers?

Thanks

I would go with external drivers... The can always be tuned down but the Pololu drivers max out very quickly.

Just to add the site uses a board that uses the DRV8825 drivers:
