installing UGS on PI3

Post by erniehatt » Fri Dec 16, 2016 8:44 am

I have tried the link given by Bertus on a previous thread to no avail, it seems to be somewhat out of date, so was unable to get any advise via comments.
I am hoping someone can help with it.
I am finding bcnc a little frustrating, I am trying to change the esteps, but can't find out how.
The command line does not seem to work. is there any up to date info out there.
Thanks

Bertus, for me it's an issue, though AS mentioned in another thread that I did get some joy finally with bcnc, I still prefer UGS, it is much simpler to use, if this was part of the Build it would make life a lot easier for me,
For me bcnc has a lot of stuff I would probably never use.
I am not ready to start engraving or anything, still waiting for a few components to arrive, for the dummy load I need to set up the laser driver.

No worries....

I will have a look at it shortly. LaserWeb3 is also on the list of need interfaces that will be added to the next version of the RPi image.

Can't ask for more than that.
Thanks Bertus. :D

Right....

I managed to install and run it last night. Here are the commands to install it.

Create a folder where you want to install UGS. From the Terminal in that folder run the following commands...

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

# install java
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre -y
sudo apt-get install librxtx-java -y

# download UGS 1.09
wget http://bit.ly/1M6z2ys -O ugs.zip

unzip ugs.zip
jar -xf UniversalGcodeSender.jar

chmod +x start.sh
Close the terminal and double click on the start.sh file to start it up.

Thanks Bertus, having problems with this line, it is telling me that it can't resolve host address bit.ly name or service unknown.

Update.
Just noticed it has put UGS zip folder in the folder, but I am not sure how to unzip it, I tried Archive, but that didn't work.

from the terminal "unzip ugs.zip" should do that for you...

The commands I included needs to be run from the terminal one line at a time,, ;)

Bertus, still getting errors on Wget Http://bit.ly/1M6z2ys.-O ugs.zip
443...connected
GnuTLS aTLS fatal alert received.
GnuTLS received alert [)]: close notify
unable to establish SSL connection
Do you know what this all means.
Seems to be something to do with security.
