G-Code Files for downloading

Post by animal » Tue Nov 07, 2017 1:20 am

Howdy folk's , I hope to fire up my machine this weekend (Maxnc mill w/cnc shield 3.0 ) I was told that there are some site's that have G-code files that can be downloaded , has any of you folk's used any of them ? any to stay clear of ? I don't know anything about coding yet & just grabbing a sample file or 2 would be a + on my side
tks

The best site is probably Thingiverse - it has it all.

The downside is that most of their files are STL files, designed mainly for 3D printing.

But its pretty easy to convert STL to GCode using software like meshcam or similar

BTW what are you wanting to cut? I have plenty of PCB g-codes I'm happy to post for testing.

nothing too fancy , just want to see the machine run through it's pace's after we do the X,Y,Z movements with the screen controls .I figgured to let it run under a working program to see if it can keep up . I'm all new to this , so I really don't know what to expect out of the MAX

I can post something when I'm back at work tomorrow (although the PCBs are pretty fine).

I also use SketchUp (free and very easy to learn) + SketchUCam addon which outputs gcode directly - I've used it very successfully to make front panels and simple 2D cutouts (and for testing) - takes no time at all to learn.

There is also a GRBL panel for this that I haven't tried yet.

What CNC Software are you using? As in the user interface for controlling the machine..
