Newby with the CNC Hat :) some questions

Post by bimmi » Mon Sep 05, 2016 10:18 pm

Hi there,

I'm new to the protoneer cnc hat :) I'm from germany!

My board is not there already because I prepared my pi already. :)

I have some questions:

- Is it safe to update / upgrade the outstanding (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade)
- How to update the cnc software? I tested to update cnc.js because after that it won't start :(
- Can you provide a script to update the cnc software? Is there already a script?
- How to autostart the cnc.js? I tested it with rc.local because it won't work

Best Regards

Bimmi

Hi.

Updating the OS should not cause and issue.

This is the script I used to install CNCjs on the latest Image file : https://github.com/Protoneer/RPI-CNC-Co ... l-cncjs.sh

I would suggest you create a new folder to install it into. That way the old files should not cause issues.

For autostart I suggest crontab with a boot setting. https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... ge/cron.md

Hi Bertus,

thanks for your replay. Use crontab won't go -.-

I find a solution...

after check the crontab for a log file and there is nothing because no message system installed I used something like this in my crontab -e

Code: Select all

@reboot /home/pi/.npm/bin/cnc >> /home/pi/cnc.log 2>&1
the cnc.log says something about "/usr/bin/env: node: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden" - a german system. It meens something like don't find the directory

I installed node-legacy with sudo apt-get install node-legacy

and now it seems to run! :) thanks
